Faith Based Emergency Preparedness Fair and Workshop
It was a beautiful day on Saturday and with a tremendous amount of
work by our Coalition the Gardena Emergency Preparedness Fair and
Workshop for Faith Based Organizations and Community Members by all
indications was a successful endeavor. During the three hours of the
event approximately 250 people attended. Of those attending more
than 50 joined the Workshop session and listened to 8 different
presentations from first responders and other organizations that
provide services prior to or after significant emergencies.
Thirty-one different Exhibitors were present and provided a wide
variety of free EPrep information and opportunities to purchase
supplies and equipment. The GEPRC / CERT skills review remained
popular activities as people practiced controlling residential
utilities and the proper use of a fire extinguisher. The LA County
Fire Department Shakey Quakey House was also popular with more than
50 people "taking a bumpy ride" to lean what an earthquake feels
like and the proper actions to take. Multiple donated items were
raffled off during three ticket drawing sessions which was well
received by those who remained to the end of the event for a chance
to win one of the prizes.
As with the mitigation of a significant emergency or disaster this
event was successful by the direct result of proper planning,
preparation with adequate resources and the effective performance by
people dedicated to improving our communities preparedness and
resiliency.
